Heidelberg man, 22, charged over alleged coward punch that blinded teen

A TEEN was left blind in his right eye after the man who allegedly robbed him then punched the 19-year-old victim as he tried to flee.

A MAN who allegedly blinded a teen with a coward punch and left him bleeding on the floor of a Melbourne pub has been charged.

A 22-year-old Heidelberg man will face court charged with armed robbery and recklessly causing serious injury over the alleged attack, which took place at the Royal Melbourne Hotel on Bourke St on February 17.

A 19-year-old was left blind in his right eye when he was allegedly robbed and bashed while out celebrating with his friends at the pub.

His attacker allegedly robbed him in the pub’s bathroom, then king hit him from behind as he tried to flee.

He spent four days in hospital and said the loss of vision had ruined his life.

Today’s charges conclude an almost three-month investigation by the Embona armed robbery task force.

The accused man has been remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
