Girl, 9, flees after abduction attempt in Mernda

A MAN has grabbed a young girl’s bike as she was riding to primary school in a daylight abduction attempt in Melbourne’s north.

A MAN grabbed a young girl’s bike in an alleged daylight abduction attempt in Mernda.

Police said the girl, 9, was riding to primary school about 8.30am on Wednesday when the man approached her on Skeeter Drive.

The man allegedly stopped her by grabbing her handlebars and convinced her to walk alongside him.

She then ran from him and fled, leaving her bike behind.

The man, in his 50s, has been interviewed by police and is currently assisting with their inquiries.

Investigators want to speak to anyone who saw the incident or witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area.

The man was described as caucasian with brown hair, wearing grey pants and black runners.
