THE brazen thugs behind a terrifying early morning home invasion in Kurunjang, involving a gang armed with a machete, taser and baseball bat, are believed to be known their victims, leading investigators to think it may have been a targeted attack.

The offenders remain on the run, however.

A police spokeswoman said a 22-year-old victim declined to make a statement to police.

“The investigation is ongoing and detectives believe parties may have been known to each other.”

One of the victims, James, who asked the Herald Sun not to publish his surname, said he was still shaking from the early morning attack at Bronton Close in Kurunjang.

“I was kicked and punched, even tasered,” he said. “I feel a bit like a tin man now as my muscles slowly get feeling back.”

The 22-year-old and his 19-year-old partner woke to shouting and threats as several men kicked down their front door.

Seven or eight men are believed to have broken into the house at about 1.45am this morning, police said.

Armed with a range of weapons, the gang of thugs attacked James and his 56-year-old father.

“They were asking where my car keys were and where I kept my money,” James said. “Then they turned around and started beating me up.”

The shaken victim said the armed robbers made off with $200 but could have taken more if not for his quick thinking.

“When they took my car keys, I let the air out of the tyres so they wouldn’t take the car,” James said.

“They managed to find money but thankfully left my car behind,” he said.

The trio received minor injuries and were treated by ambulance officers at the scene.

Police returned to the scene about 10am and officers took photos and interviewed the victims again.

Neighbour Angela Labrovic said she heard the sound of glass breaking but didn’t go outside.

“I could hear the sound of glass breaking but I was too scared to look outside,” she said.

“I didn’t want them to turn their attention if to me.”

Another neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said the house was regularly involved in disputes.

“Nearly every week something will happen there,” they said.

The investigation is ongoing.
