A bikie charged with trying to murder Mongols MC member Rocco Curra had been shot three weeks earlier.

Senior Finks member Sione Hokafonu was wounded by gunfire in mysterious circumstances in Melbourne’s outer-eastern suburbs on July 10 last year.

Hokafonu and mates had been watching a State of Origin rugby league decider at the Fountain Gate Hotel on the night he was shot in the leg.

He was wounded soon after leaving the venue.

Hokafonu managed to get to Casey Hospital in Berwick but police were called because of the nature of his injuries.

Police later said he was not able to help with their inquiries.

Curra was shot three weeks later as he sat in his car in a late-night ambush at Bulleen.

Graphic footage released by Victoria Police showed a BMW sweep in front of his stationary car before two gunmen climbed out and immediately open fire.

Investigators believe Curra was set up by being lured to the Burke St shooting scene for a meeting.

Hokafonu, of Clyde North, was one of 11 people arrested last Friday in a sweep of Echo taskforce raids by detectives investigating the Curra shooting.

The 26-year-old faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with attempted murder and intentionally damaging property.

Hokafonu made no application for bail and was remanded in custody until June 26.

Co-accused Ali Hussein, 24, who is charged with attempted murder, intentionally damaging property was remanded to the same date.
