Bikies in Australia: A short history

A high-ranking Finks bikie who allegedly stormed a Hampton Park home with a tyre iron in a bid to avenge the posting of nude photos online has been refused bail.

Victorian chapter vice-president Corey Wanakore-Moeke, 33, allegedly joined fellow bikies decked out in their club attire to invade a man’s home on the orders of Finks boss Brent ‘BJ’ Reker last September.

It’s alleged Reker enlisted his crew to target the home after another co-accused, Tara Egglestone, claimed the man who lived there had posted naked photos of her online.

An earlier hearing was told Ms Egglestone, 29, had reached out to Reker for retaliation after a Facebook account in her name had been set up, featuring naked photos.

She reported it to police but then took matters into her own hands, with listening devices capturing her speaking with Reker at the Finks clubhouse, the earlier hearing was told.

A planned attack on September 7 didn’t go ahead after police swarmed the area after hearing the alleged plot via covert surveillance.

It’s claimed the group then went ahead on September 9, assaulting their target’s father before storming in to find their victim and his girlfriend in bed.

Mr Wanakore-Moeke is alleged to have used a tyre iron in the attack.

The court heard he was on bail at the time. Others charged over the incident have since been bailed, but yesterday Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz said she had to consider the facts and circumstances before her, not that others had been released.

“I am not satisfied the matters put before me do qualify him for bail,” she said.

Defence lawyer Allan Sharp said Mr Reker’s word was the only thing linking Mr Wanakore- Moeke to the crime.

He argued he should be bailed to allow his partner to continue cancer treatment, and because a trial may not occur until 2020.

Police opposed bail for all five accused, concerned for the safety of the alleged victim who they believe is in hiding.

Those already released have been banned from contacting each other as part of their conditions.

Mr Reker, 33, was bailed along with two co-accused on January 18 after spending several months on remand.

The case was adjourned to March.
