WIFE killer Fernando Paulino believes he would have got away with murder if his trial jury wasn’t told he was such a heartless jerk.

The Supreme Court of Appeal last week accepted a late appeal over the killer’s conviction for the murder of his wife, Teresa Paulino.

The bloody body of the 49-year-old was found in the garage of her mother’s Reservoir home on July 15, 2013.

Teresa Paulino died from 16 stab wounds.

She died from 16 stab wounds to her chest, stomach and back, and had been bashed so ferociously she had a broken jaw and bleeding on the brain.

The mother of two had just turned around her life after escaping her husband when he ended it.

Court documents obtained by the Herald Sun reveal Paulino believes the trial judge got it wrong when he allowed the jury to hear his callous response to news his wife had been found dead.

Paulino was last year sentenced to serve 30 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 25 years.

The killer has complained that the jury should never have been told that he didn’t care to ask what had happened to his wife when police told her she was dead.

He also believes they should never have been told about all the times he threatened to kill her before he actually made good on his threats.

And he’s argued that Crown prosecutor Andrew Tinney, SC, made “inappropriate” submissions about him during his closing address to the jury.

Paulino has rolled the dice with his appeal despite already hitting murder-trial gold when his barrister had important CCTV ditched from the trial.

The video showed Paulino casing out his mother-in-law’s home before he crept into the garage and set his deadly trap.

The appeal is certain to come as another blow to his children, Luke and Daniel Paulino, who were both required to give evidence against their dad during his trial.

Paulino yelled out to his youngest son, Luke, as he was about to deliver his victim impact statement.

“You know I didn’t do it, Luke. You know that,” he shouted.

“You know I wasn’t there. I was in the western suburbs.”

Paulino continued his rant despite warnings from Justice Kevin Bell that he would be removed from the court if he continued.

“It’s tragic. It’s horrific what happened to your mother, but I didn’t do it,” Paulino said.
