UPDATE: FRIENDS of an exotic dancer found dead at a Melbourne club have spoken of their shock, as police probe why her body was left for up to 12 hours at the venue where she partied with mystery men.

POLICE are probing how an exotic dancer came to be left dead for up to 12 hours inside the Melbourne CBD strip club where she worked.

Stacey Tierney, 29, was found slumped in a room in Dreams ­Gentlemen’s Club on the Sunday before Christmas.

She had partied in the Elizabeth St venue, which is closed on Sundays, with several ­mystery men who had access to it.

It is believed they fled after she died. Her body was not discovered until 11.50am on Monday the 19th.

CCTV footage is being reviewed by investigators, but private areas of the club are not covered by cameras.

Ms Tierney’s former boyfriend Matthew Girvan said on Facebook he was devastated by her death

“Woke up to some horrible news this morning. Sat and watched the sunrise over Indonesia. My ex girlfriend I was with for 6 years passed away. Words can’t describe how devastated I am.”

Ms Tierney, a fitness instructor from Manchester ­England, had travelled Australia for three years and worked at ­strip clubs interstate.

A friend said: “She liked to have a drink. But she was such a healthy girl and she didn’t take drugs. She was emotionally intelligent and streetwise.”

A manager at Dreams, which boasts of being “Melbourne’s finest tabletop dancing venue housing a selection of the most exquisite ­ladies”, said: “We can’t comment.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed that officers were investigating.

Ms Tierney’s friend, a dancer called Ashley, said she was angry that an ambulance had not been called immediately when her body had been found. She said she did not rule out foul play.

“I personally hope someone is charged for this. I’d like to see them punished,’’ she said.

“I told her not to work there. I thought it was a bit dodgy.

But she said Ms Tierney had taken up work at Dreams ­despite her warning.

Ms Tierney’s mum ­Michelle and her sisters Stephanie, Kristie and Kelly-Anne were ­informed of the tragedy and are awaiting confirmation of the cause of death.

They have been fundraising to repatriate her body to the UK, with more than $17,000 donated to a gofundme page on the internet.

Ms Tierney, who studied dance in her home city, would have turned 30 this month and her travels around Australia feature prominently on her social media pages.

Her cousin Colleen told the Manchester Evening News: “She was such a free spirit ... we just want to bring her home and give her an amazing funeral.

“We obviously knew how great she was. We were so proud of her and spoke to her all the time.

“She was so fit and loved dancing. She came back for Christmas last year.”

Ms Tierney had been intent on a nursing career, according to friends.

Police have been contacting those who knew and worked alongside Ms Tierney to gain an understanding of her lifestyle. Many friends posted about their grief in the days after her death.

Ashely said she had met Ms Tierney at Goldfingers Men’s Club in Melbourne and later they had both travelled to ­Darwin for work.

She had planned to travel to Melbourne to see Ms Tierney this month.

“I miss her so much. I was so sad to hear the news and I’d already bought tickets to come to Melbourne to see family and to see Stacey.

“She was a really good work buddy. I was hysterical when I was told. I couldn’t stop crying. It’s not fair.’’

The police investigation continues. The Victoria Police spokeswoman said: “The exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are yet to be determined and a post-mortem will be conducted.”
