Emergency services called to Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre following reports of an incident

A youth has allegedly assaulted a worker at Malmsbury’s justice centre, leaving the staffer injured. It comes after as a string of attacks on prison workers sweeps Victoria’s correctional system.

A staff member has been injured at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre, following a string of correctional staff attacks.

Emergency services were called to the centre just before 6pm after an employee sustained upper body injuries.

The staff member was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A spokesperson from the Department of Justice and Community Safety confirmed there had been an incident involving young people at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre.

The spokesperson said it was resolved quickly by youth justice staff.

Victoria Police Sergeant Cameron Scott said investigations were ongoing.

“Investigators have been told a 45-year-old man was assaulted by a youth at a correctional facility on Mollison St about 5.50pm,” he said.

“The man received non-life-threatening injuries.

“An investigation into the assault is ongoing.
