Eight armed thugs break into family’s northwest home

Police are on the hunt for a group of armed thugs who broke into a family home in Harkness on Monday morning, and injured two men as they made their escape.

Baseball bat wielding thugs have broken into a family home in Harkness on Monday morning while three adults and an infant slept.

Police are investigating a home invasion on Oakpark Drive about 1.30am where it is understood eight males armed with a baseball bat and garden stakes broke into a home.

Three people were in the home at the time of the incident, two men, a women and a three-year-old boy.

The group smashed their way into the house and were confronted by the occupants of the residence before demanding car keys from them.

A laptop and keys to a silver Holden wagon were stolen before the group fled outside before a scuffle took place where the two male occupants were injured.

A 45-year-old man, was struck with the bat and sustained hand injuries and a 26-year-old man sustained minor lacerations during the incident.

A neighbour who asked not to be named told the Herald Sun that the group broke in through the baby’s room and left their weapons at the scene.

“They broke in through the babies room while they were asleep,” they said.

“They were armed with baseball bats and dropped one near the home.”

The 22-year-old woman and three-year-old boy were unharmed.

“The group then took off east along Oakpark Drive and fled in an unknown vehicle,” a police spokesman said.

“One of the males fled in the Holden wagon, which has registration ZZG 331.

“All the offenders have been perceived as African in appearance.”
