DRUGS charges against a former Aussie Mr Universe accused of being involved in a $500 million drug bust have been dropped.
Gary Lewer, 58, was charged with a string of drug related offences in November after police arrested him in relation to an operation they said had the capacity to produce $500 million of ice.
Lewer, Australia’s most successful bodybuilder, was charged with possessing a substance with the intention of trafficking a drug of dependence and possessing equipment for the purposes of drug trafficking.
But the charges were withdrawn this morning at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
An elite body builder Mr Lewer won the Mr World title three times and Mr Australia seven times.
He also won 10 Mr Australias, including 4 overall titles, and holds the record for the greatest number of overall titles.
The move comes just weeks after a brief of evidence was expected to be served on Lewer’s solicitors.
