A HARDENED criminal known as “Badness” has pleaded guilty to a string of robberies that netted him almost $400,000.

Christopher Dean Pecotic, formerly known as Binse, pleaded guilty to a string of hold-ups dating back to 1988.

Pecotic admitted seven armed robberies, and one attempted theft, during a three-year crime spree between 1988 and 1991.

In that time he pocketed $396,000 from the hold ups on a Noble Park bank and retail stores at Highpoint shopping centre.

He was armed with a shotgun on each robbery.

Pecotic is serving 14 years for a crime spree that ended in his firing at police during a 44-hour suburban siege in May 2012.

Pecotic robbed $235,000 from an armoured vehicle at gunpoint outside a Laverton hotel before holding police at bay by firing shots at them.

Officers fired beanbag pellets at him to subdue him when he confronted them wearing body armour and carrying a revolver, after being flushed out of his Keilor home by teargas.

The siege followed an incident in which Pecotic pulled a revolver on police pursuing him through a restaurant.

But he has appealed the sentence saying he was “sold out” by his lawyer.

He has also launched a County Court lawsuit for pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life, alleging Corrections Victoria staff failed to protect him from being attacked in jail in 2006 and 2007.

He has spent almost 30 of the of the past 32 years behind bars.

Pecotic claimed he was stabbed and assaulted by two inmates in the exercise yard of Barwon Prison on May 31, 2006, suffering stab wounds to his head, hand and both thighs.

He was then housed in a unit for inmates requiring close supervision, but blamed jail authorities for failing to search prisoners before they entered the exercise yard and failing to confiscate weapons.

Pecotic will return to court next month.
