Charges laid over Melbourne baby formula theft ring

Five people have been charged over a series of baby formula heists after a staggering number of burglaries across the city, with the team of thieves targeting locations from Werribee to Springvale.

A ring of baby formula thieves has been busted in Melbourne after they allegedly stole cans in more than 40 burglaries in one month.

Four men and a woman have been arrested and charged after a series of burglaries where formula was stolen at Springvale, Clayton, Bundoora, Point Cook and Werribee in June and July.

Police say the investigation by Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives is ongoing.

The group, all from St Albans, are facing burglary and theft charges for more than 40 burglaries which allegedly took place between June 19 to July 14.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with more than 20 burglary offences and a 24-year-old has been charged with bail and burglary offences. Both were remanded in custody and will appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of burglary and was bailed along with a 41-year-old man, who was charged with burglary and theft and also freed on bail.

Both will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in November.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with burglary and theft, was released on bail and will return to court in October.
