THE daughter of gangland killer Carl Williams says her father murdered for his family.

The 15-year-old has given her first interview, in which she describes growing up in the spotlight created by her father’s actions.

Dhakota tells Seven’s Sunday Night in an exclusive interview that she accepts that her dad was in prison over four murders but that’s not how she remembers him.

“We know our dad as our dad, not what he’s described as in the newspapers ... so we know him as fun and loving and caring for us, and always made us happy,” she says.

The teen says her father would have no regrets about masterminding the gangland war.

Williams was behind the execution of Jason Moran in front of his children at an Essendon footy ground in June 2003, as well as the murders of Mark Moran, Lewis Moran and Michael Marshall.

But Dhakota says people have the wrong impression of her dad.

“If you spoke to him and got to know him, you’d think he’s not that sort of person, like, and you can tell he did it for his family ’cause he was all for us, all for us family,” Dhakota tells Seven.

“They probably think, like, oh, maybe there were other ways that you could have done, done something else.”

The teen says growing up has been difficult because people judge her family.

“Like friends’ parents ... what they think of us ... like not letting their kids come over and things and they don’t really know what we’re like ... we’re normal. We’re good people,” she says.

Dhakota says people need to get to know her and “how we actually are”.

Several letters Williams wrote to his daughter from a prison computer have also been released.

In them, Williams, who was serving a minimum 35 years in jail, says he is missing his daughter “like crazy” and trying to keep himself busy learning things on his computer and playing games.

“Hello there my beautiful daughter, who I love with all my heart, I’m so proud of you, you are the best daughter,” he writes.

The letters, some addressed from the Melaleuca Unit at Barwon Prison, are filled with pictures of butterflies, kittens and teddy bears.

He describes putting photos of Dhakota on his walls and how much he looks forward to her visits to him in jail.

“I’ve been loving talking to you on the phone,” he writes.

“I could talk to you all day, and all night, and still not have enough of you.

“Write back to me as you know how happy that would make me.”

Williams ends each letter with “lots and lots of love always and forever, your loving father.”

The killer was bludgeoned to death in prison by fellow inmate Matthew Johnson in April 2010.
