A SECOND man has now been charged following raids in Brunswick and Epping yesterday morning.

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 27-year-old Brunswick man with reckless conduct endangering life, handling stolen goods, driving in a dangerous manner, two counts of evading police, possession of steroids and firearms offences.

MORE LAW AND ORDER

He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 29.

The matter relates to two separate incidents in Port Melbourne.

The first incident occurred in Bay St, where a vehicle failed to stop for police about 3am on April 23 while the second incident relates to a similar incident in Graham St about 1.45am on August 1.

DRUGS, ORGANISED CRIME LINKED TO RAIDS

A GREEN ammunition box and large shotgun cartridges were seized by police during two raids in Melbourne’s north yesterday morning.

A man was arrested at a Brunswick home and a large number of officers searched the Hope St property, with police also interviewing a man outside the premises yesterday.

A panelbeater shop on Buch Ave, Epping was also searched yesterday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Humphries said the raids related to organised crime matters, following a series of incidents in the Port Melbourne and South Melbourne area.

He wouldn’t comment on the nature of the incident but alleged drugs were involved.

“Drugs relate to the investigation which spans across other areas of crime,” he said.

Neighbours yesterday said they heard a woman screaming from within the Brunswick home about 6.15am.

Police regularly attend the property, which is home to a large Middle Eastern family. It is covered by an extensive CCTV network.

“Once I saw the police cars this morning I thought … here we go again,” a neighbour said.

Police yelled at a man to exit the home using a megaphone, with neighbours waking to the confronting demand about 6am.

They yelled ‘please come out with your hands up’,” a neighbour told. “It took them about 10 minutes to come out.

“There was a SWAT team. There have been raids here before.”

Many neighbours spoke of “unruly behaviour” linked to the home.

“There are a lot of expensive cars that seem in congress with the house,” a neighbour said.

Another man earlier shouted at media gathered outside the home.

“All the neighbours have to live with this disruption. It’s very noisy and disrespectful.”

At least a dozen officers were inside the property yesterday, and could be seen removing evidence from the home in brown paper bags.

Two luxury cars were parked out the front.

The raids followed a month-long investigation by Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit.
