FIVE HOODED youths kicked and stomped a victim— until he was left “bleeding” and “shaking” — during a vicious brawl in Melbourne’s CBD last night.

Footage shows a scuffle outside drink shop Cha Co on Bourke Street, about 7.30pm, before the perpetrators flee.

The victim was left on the ground while others tended to him, with police arriving a short time later.

Jay Lee was working last night in the area and saw the brawl.

“People were frightened. A lot of people were watching. I thought there was a gang rampage or something,” he told the Sunday Herald Sun.

“The people (were) hitting with big weapon(s) or something.”

Mr Lee, a cleaner, was worried the youths were going to use his brooms and mops as weapons.

“I wanted to move my stuff quickly otherwise they could fight with my things. I was scared of people using my things as a weapon.”

Mr Lee said the group looked Asian in appearance.

“I saw a guy knocked down. I saw a guy was lying down on the floor,” he said.

Skylar Xu saw the male lying on the ground.

“He wasn’t moving,” she said.

“It’s quite tragic. I thought it was quite scary seeing a male lying on the ground.”

The teenager was knocked out during the ordeal and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

At midday the victim was in a stable condition.

Shocked onlookers said the brawl was something “out of a gangster movie” with two groups trading wild punches, leaving the teenager unconscious on the ground.

Police believe a number of weapons were used, including batons and sticks.

“It was insane,” one witness said.

“There were about three or four separate fights and one person lying on the ground bleeding and shaking.”

A security guard working across the road said police arrived within minutes.

“Both groups were yelling at each other before the fight, they seemed to know each other,” he said.

Police confirmed capsicum spray was used to break up the brawl and were seen washing blood off the ground afterwards.

One of the teens involved in the fight told the Sunday Herald Sun he and his friends were attacked while smoking on the street.

“They just attacked us, I got hit a few times and my friend is in hospital.”

“There were probably about 30 people involved, maybe more, and now we are going to see our friend — he is 18,” he said.

The brawler said the fight was not gang-related.

Police blocked the entrance to the mall for over an hour as they interviewed witnesses, trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fight.

By 9:15pm the entrance was reopened and police had left the scene.

Yarra Trams says a number of services were affected.

Police say they will speak to a number of witnesses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
