A POLICE officer has been assaulted and a teenage girl seriously injured after a brawl erupted between at least 15 youths near a train station in Melbourne’s southeast this evening.
The altercation, between males and females, happened about 6.30pm on Haughton Rd near Oakleigh train station.

Eyewitness James, who requested his surname to be withheld, saw the aftermath.
“A young girl was screaming and crying at the same time,” he told the Herald Sun.
“She looked pretty bad, there was a big mess on her face, she was all red from the blood.
“She was screaming, ‘I’m 15 years old, why did you hit me?’
“She was bleeding heavily from the face.”
Victoria Police has confirmed a teenage girl has been taken to hospital in a serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Another teenage girl was arrested by police in relation to assaulting a policeman during the incident. It is unknown if the policeman was injured.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said no other arrests had been made.
“A number of people are being interviewed,” she said.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
It is unknown what sparked the brawl.
