A MAN was stabbed in front of horrified shoppers after an argument outside a busy Box Hill shopping centre.
The 20-year-old argued with two other men before things turned physical outside Box Hill Central shopping centre in Main St about 4.30pm on Friday.
Police said one of the men pulled a weapon and stabbed the victim before leaving the scene with a third man.
The victim, who suffered injuries to his lower torso and upper leg, collapsed soon after and was taken to nearby Box Hill Hospital.
The wounded man was placed in an induced coma and his condition has improved to serious but stable.
Detective Sen-Sgt Ian Shepherd of Whitehorse CIU said the argument and subsequent bloodshed would have been witnessed by “many, many people.”
He urged those who had not yet spoken to investigators to come forward.
Sen-Sgt Shepherd said the men were known to each other and detectives were examining footage from the busy commercial area.
“What we are looking to do is identify the people in it,” he said.
One of the suspects is described as caucasian, about 175cm tall with dark hair and medium build. He wore a dark windcheater and tracksuit pants.
The second was also caucasian, about 175cm tall with short fair hair and a thin build wearing sunglasses on his head. He wore a blue short-sleeved T-shirt and dark pants with a small bag over his shoulder.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
