BOURKE St rampage accused Dimitrious Gargasoulas has failed to show-up at court amid claims he is mentally unwell.
Mr Gargasoulas was expected to be present for his hearing on unrelated matters at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via videolink from the Melbourne Remand Centre.
The 27-year old is charged with six counts of murder and 29 counts of attempted murder over the January 20 attack.
Mr Gargasoulas’ lawyer Tass Antos said his client was “not very well”.
“There are certain issues that are being explored in regards to his mental health,” he said.
Mr Antos said bringing Mr Gargasoulas to court would only add to his poor health.
The court heard while there was no actual proof Mr Gargasoulas suffered from mental health issues, his lawyers were in the process of arranging appointments for him with forensic psychologists.
“This may take some time,” Mr Antos said.
Mr Gargasoulas’ legal team hopes to have the necessary assessments in hand before his next court date on October 12.
During his last court appearance, Mr Gargasoulas delivered a bizarre rant blaming his alleged offending on a secret society.
“I’m very sad for everything that’s happened but it’s due to the Illuminati,” he said.
The Illuminati claims to be “an elite organisation of world leaders, business authorities, innovators, artists, and other influential members of this planet”.
“I was under extreme stress that caused me a mental breakdown,” he said.
He further claimed that someone was trying to “assassinate” him.
“It’s because I hold the key to Freemason treasure,” he said.
Mr Gargasoulas claimed he was “being controlled by the government” and urged society to follow God.
“We must refer back to God’s royal laws to prevent lies, corruption and death,” he said.
The alleged killer was on bail over a string of dangerous driving charges when police claim he carried out the massacre.
He faces more than 20 charges including breaching bail, driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.
Despite the allegations, Mr Gargasoulas was bailed by an out-of-sessions bail justice six days before police allege he drove his burgundy Holden Commodore through crowds of Bourke St Mall shoppers, killing six.
He will return to court over the Bourke St rampage in December.
