THE man accused of committing the Bourke St rampage has appeared in court sporting a bushy beard and prison belly.

Dimitrious Gargasoulas, 27, is charged with six counts of murder and 28 of attempted murder over the January 20 incident in the city.

He appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via videolink today over a series of unrelated matters that happened in the year leading up to the rampage.

Mr Gargasoulas sat quietly during the brief hearing, where his lawyer again suggested his client could be unfit to plead to all of his charges due to mental impairment.

The accused killer looked as if he had embraced the prison teachings of perverted prison foodie John Xydias, who in 2011 revealed his love of prison life.

The court heard doctors were still in the process of signing off on a forensic psychological assessment of the tubby inmate.

If successful in his mental impairment defence, Mr Gargasoulas will never again set foot in prison over any of his alleged offences.

At a hearing earlier this year, Mr Gargasoulas unleashed a bizarre rant during a similar court appearance via videolink.

“I’m very sad for everything that’s happened but it’s due to the Illuminati,” he said.

The Illuminati claims to be “an elite organisation of world leaders, business authorities, innovators, artists, and other influential members of this planet”.

He told interrupted that court proceeding to tell the magistrate he had suffered a mental breakdown.

“I was under extreme stress that caused me a mental breakdown,” he said.

He further claimed that someone was trying to “assassinate” him.

“It’s because I hold the key to Freemason treasure,” he said.

Mr Gargasoulas claimed he was “being controlled by the government” and urged society to follow God.

“We must refer back to God’s royal laws to prevent lies, corruption and death,” he said.

Mr Gargasoulas is charged with six counts of murder and 29 counts of attempted murder over the January 20 attack.

He was on bail at the time over a string of dangerous driving charges.

Mr Gargasoulas is facing more than 20 charges including breaching bail, driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

He will return to court over those matters on December 6.
