A BODY found in a Kensington home five days ago is yet to be identified.
The badly decomposed body was found in the Lambeth St home last Wednesday night.
It’s understood nearby residents alerted authorities after a foul smell began to emanate from the home.
The cause of death is being treated as suspicious.
Victoria Police confirmed three people have been spoken to in relation to the person’s death.
They have all been released pending further enquiries.
“The body is yet to be identified and investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem,” a Victoria Police statement read.
Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.
Neighbours said a couple had lived there for several years but had not been seen for at least three months.
The front yard of the house was overgrown and unopened mail was piling up.
Witnesses told the Herald Sun police began arriving at the property, located 5km from Melbourne’s CBD, just before 5pm last Wednesday.
“Four unmarked police cars, one divvy van and up to 10 detectives arrived,” a local resident said.
Detectives doorknocked locals asking if they had heard or seen anything suspicious in recent days.
Neighbours were being interviewed about the house’s most recent tenants, believed to be a couple in their 40s.
Neighbours thought the couple had moved out during last year.
Police briefly closed Lambeth St between Scarborough Place and Parsons St. The road has since been reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
