A fire has broken out in a jail cell at Port Phillip Prison.
Fire fighters were alerted to the blaze in a cell at the jail in Truganina, west of Melbourne, about 7.45pm.
Five MFB trucks rushed to the blaze on Dohertys Rd.
It’s understood the fire sent the prison into lockdown, though it’s believed police were not notified.
The prison made headlines recently after a foiled Shawshank Redemption -style jailbreak attempt.

Three inmates at the state’s largest maximum-security prison used makeshift tools to remove bricks from a cell, apparently with plans to dig their way out and scale the fencing.
It’s understood the inmates stuffed tissue into the gaps of the bricks in place of mortar.
