Andrew Rule: Families have a right to know truth
GRAVE fears are held for a person fighting for life after the Bourke St massacre, Premier Daniel Andrews says.
Last night a 33-year-old Blackburn South woman became the sixth victim of the tragedy when she died just before 7.30pm.
Mr Andrews said a seventh person was fighting for life in hospital.
“The latest update of course is a sixth person has passed away, we send our thoughts and our prayers and our best wishes to their family,” Mr Andrews said.
“My latest advice is seven (people) remain in hospital and one of those is in a grave condition, still critically ill and there are fears for that patient’s well being.
“We are very concerned for those who remain in hospital.
“We know that they will get great care, whether that’s enough in the wake of the horrific injuries that were suffered — at least one patient remains critical — we’ll just have to wait and see.
“To those who are grieving and those who sit bedside in the hope of better times, we send our love and our prayers and best wishes.”
Among those killed when a car ploughed through Bourke St on January 20 were Matthew Si, 33, Jess Mudie 22, 10-year-old Thalia Hakin, three-month-old Zachary Bryant and a 25-year-old Japanese man who was understood to have been in Australia for about a year and studying in Melbourne.

Hospitals have treated 37 other people injured during the incident, with nine patients remaining in care.
Windsor man Dimitrious “Jimmy” Gargasoulas, 26, has been charged with five counts of murder with other charges pending and was remanded to appear in court in August.
Families and friends of the victims have continued to share photographs and memories of their loved ones, as the fallout from Friday’s tragedy still sweeps Victoria.
Broken-hearted Melburnians left thousands of floral and written tributes for the victims, which will be collected by Red Cross and State Emergency services on Tuesday.
Hand-written notes, flowers and teddy bears left for Thalia and Zachary will be collected starting from the GPO building and moving towards Bourke St.
Zachary’s mother thanked the Melbourne community for their “love and kindness” in a Facebook post.
Nawwar Hassan Bryant posted a video on Facebook of herself, supported by partner Matt, delivering little Zac’s eulogy.
“Day 2 of being home and it isn’t getting any easier — yet,” Ms Hassan Bryant said.
“Amidst all this sadness I feel so grateful to know there is so much love and kindness all around us.”
Ms Hassan Bryant said she and Mr Bryant visited the Bourke St memorial and were touched to see photos of Zac and the heartfelt messages left for him.
“I can’t thank enough every single person who has reached out to me. I feel your sadness and appreciate your love. Besides Zac and all the other victims, this eulogy is also dedicated to you and anyone who has lost a child,” she said.
On Sunday the brother of the man accused of killing five people in the tragic CBD massacre expressed his remorse to the families affected.

Angelo Gargasoulas wrote on Facebook his thoughts were with everyone involved.
“To all the families of the victims involved in last Fridays tragedy, my heart goes out to you and for all those still fighting in hospital, my thoughts are with you and your recovery,” Mr Gargasoulas wrote earlier today.
Dimitrious Gargasoulas allegedly knifed younger brother Angelo on Friday morning before setting off on a 12-hour rampage.
