THE manager of terrified workers who were forced to hide when a man threatened them with a knife says such incidents are now “all too common” and plans to relocate their Croydon office.

A witness told the Herald Sun the man approached three workers at Croydon train station, brandishing the weapon around 12pm today.

MORE LAW AND ORDER

The victims took refuge by locking themselves in a car as they waited for police to arrive.

At least eight officers were involved in the dramatic arrest, using capsicum spray to subdue the man.

“The staff are a little unsettled given how erratic the behaviour was,” the workers’ manager said.

“There’s a methadone clinic down Croydon’s Main St and these issues are now all too common.

“We’ve now implemented a policy of locking the office door at all times.

“People in the area are pretty cautious. They scan the street before they walk down it.

“We will be relocating our office I think.”

A witness said multiple officers wrestled the man to the ground.

“It took at least eight police to arrest the guy who was forced to the ground and handcuffed before being taken away in a police divvy van.”

The armed offender, a Millgrove man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

Croydon Sgt Ben Rosevear said the man, who has since been released from Maroondah Hospital, would be charged with weapons and other offences.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said no one was injured.
