ANTI-HOON police have laid almost 100 charges against two men as part of a major crackdown on dangerous underground car meets and police evasion.

Magistrate Leonard Brear denied bail to 28-year-old St Albans man Zoran Mircevski and 19-year-old Delahey man Adam Walker after they appeared in court accused of participating and organising dangerous driving meets.

Police will allege that Walker, under the identity of “Mr West”, was regularly organising illegal high-risk hooning events and had recently attempted to source three firearms.

He was charged with 66 counts, including conduct endangering life and conduct endangering persons.

Mircevski was charged with 30 offences including conduct endangering persons.

Both men were arrested yesterday and one car was seized by police before the pair faced Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Monday night.

Walker told the court he needed to be granted bail because he had a job to attend and rent to pay.

“If I’m not there how am I going to pay my rent,” he said.

Mr Brear last night said both men’s charges were too serious to allow their release.

“The court is very concerned about your alleged activities and the subsequent risks the community faces if released on bail,” he said.

“Of great concern is your attempt to access firearms.”

Mr Brear said he was also concerned by the pair’s alleged behaviour to avoid discovery by Victoria Police.

“The thrill of the chase it seems are part and parcel of these offences,” he said.

Both men are scheduled to appear again in Broadmeadows Magistrates Court this morning.
