AN accused killer drew a detailed sketch of his victim’s home, pointing out where he hid in order to carry out a cyanide murder, a court has heard.

Arun Kamalasanan, 35, told an undercover cop in secret video recordings played in the Supreme Court that he lay in wait in the garage of Sam Abraham’s Epping home for hours before he sneaked inside and fed him the toxic poison as he slept.

“I was here,” Mr Kamalasanan can be heard saying as he penned a circle on the paper to indicate a bush across from the Kirkland Court house where he initially hid.

He said he sneaked through the roller garage door as Mr Abraham’s wife, Sofia Sam, arrived home about 10pm on October 14, 2015.

When she got out of the car and walked towards a door that went into the house, he said he moved slowly around the vehicle to avoid detection.

He then marked on the paper where he went through another door into the rear yard and peered through a window to follow their movements.

“It sounds a bit unbelievable,” the covert officer is heard saying, when Mr Kamalasanan describes how he crept into the house and slipped sleeping tablets into an unattended avocado smoothie.

Asked if anyone saw him, he said: “There was no camera. Nobody seen me.”

His alleged confession came following a five-month undercover operation by police.

But hours later, in his police record of interview played to the jury on Friday, the accused denied any involvement.

He even struggled to describe the house the young family, who he claimed were his friends, lived in.

Asked directly by homicide squad detectives if he was involved in Mr Abraham’s murder, he said: “I don’t know anything.”

Probed as to what he was doing the night of the father’s death, Mr Kamalasanan said: “I was at home, I think. I don’t remember.”

Mr Kamalasanan described to the investigators that Mr Abraham and himself were “good friends”.

“He’s a good guy,” he told the officers, adding how Mr Abraham had helped him to pay his school fees.

The trial has heard Mr Kamalasanan and Ms Sam met as classmates in an Indian college about 15 years ago.

Police allege Ms Sam, 33, helped Mr Kamalasanan kill her husband.

They have both been charged with murder, and pleaded not guilty. The trial, before Justice Paul Coghlan, will continue on Monday.
