A man accused of murdering Kylie Blackwood asked ex for an alibi

A MAN accused of butchering mum Kylie Blackwood in her Pakenham home in 2013 allegedly asked his ex-girlfriend to cover his whereabouts on the day of the mum’s death.

What happens in a criminal trial?

A MAN accused of stabbing to death mum Kylie Blackwood in her own home allegedly asked his ex-girlfriend to cook him up an alibi, a court has heard.

Scott Alan Murdoch, 40, of Morwell, was the number one suspect in the Pakenham woman’s horrific murder when police claim he asked his former partner for help.

“I need to ask you something, but you can’t go blabbering around with your big mouth,” he said.

Police claim his already suspicious ex-partner asked him flat out if he killed Mrs Blackwood.

He denied he had, but needed her to back his story up.

“No, but I need you to be an alibi for that day. I’ve been questioned,” he said.

Mr Murdoch appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today in the first day of his preliminary hearing over the murder.

Court documents revealed the question baffled the mother of his two children.

“Because I was doing armed burgs and I want you to say I had the kids that day and I met you at 4 o’clock to give the kids back,” he told her.

His ex refused the request.

Mrs Blackwood was found dead in her McCaffery Rise home in Pakenham by her twin daughters, 11, at 3.40pm on August 1, 2013.

She had been savagely stabbed to death in what police suspected was a burglary gone horribly wrong.

The investigation was initially hampered when CCTV footage that allegedly captured Mr Murdoch using Ms Blackwood’s stolen credit card was not obtained by police.

The footage was subsequently deleted by the bank before the error was discovered.

It was a detailed eye witness account provided by a roof tiler that eventually led to Mr Murdoch’s arrest.

The tiler was working on a roof near Ms Blackwood’s home when he saw a man focused on her property.

He described a man wearing a black baseball hat and a distinct striped hoodie.

A digital image of the man was splashed across media outlets across the state.

It was a hoodie another of Mr Murdoch’s ex girlfriends had seen him wearing a day before the murder.

He was also driving a white rental vehicle police later identified as a vehicle that was captured on CCTV near Ms Blackwood’s home on the day she died.

When police caught up with Mr Murdoch he was not talkative.

He told police he may have gone to Donut King that day for lunch and was getting around in a mate’s car.

The story never checked-out.

He was charged almost three years later when DNA taken from Ms Blackwood’s jeans came up with a possible match.

Mr Murdoch made no comment and remains in prison awaiting trial.

The preliminary hearing continues.
