Wheelchair-bound man rescued from McKinnon house fire after PSOs raise alarm

A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND man was rescued from a house fire in McKinnon this morning after a pair of Protective Services Officers raised the alarm.

A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND man was rescued from a house fire in McKinnon this morning after a pair of Protective Services Officers raised the alarm.

The PSOs were patrolling McKinnon train station when they noticed smoke coming from a nearby Station Ave unit at about 12.30am this morning.

Police arrived to find a man trapped inside the unit, which was quickly filling with smoke.

He was unable to leave because of his wheelchair.

Firefighters were able to rescue the 56-year-old, who was taken to hospital with severe burns and smoke inhalation.

The blaze was brought under control within six minutes.

An electrical fault is believed to be responsible for the fire.
