Last Supper Pizzeria to open on Cavenagh St, Darwin city

A sister restaurant to some of the NT’s most loved and left-of-field venues is soon opening in Darwin city. Here’s what’s in store.

Pizza, wine, good music and plenty of religious paraphernalia is the name of the game for Darwin’s newest venue.

Last Supper Pizzeria, opening on Thursday, is the latest offering by well-known business owner Matt Mulga.

Facing Cavenagh St at the entrance to the quirky Air Raid Arcade, the restaurant will offer quality pizza until midnight on weekdays and 2am on Saturdays.

Venue manager Ellie Duigan says Last Supper is an extension of Babylon Bar at the arcade’s opposite end, which Mr Mulga also owns.

“You can order food from Babylon and we have dining tables right down the arcade, as well as in a few hidden spots,” Ms Duigan said.

“The whole idea is a late-night spot with good music and good vibes.

“Music is crucial – funk, soul, jazz – stuff that we don’t get a lot of up here.

“There’s heaps of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a few Italian-style share plates including arancini and meatballs.

“The wine list is almost exclusively Alpha Box and Dice and we have an amazing cocktail list with a focus on drinks that accompany the food, so negroni, espresso martini and aperitifs.

“We like to think it will be a different option to your McDonalds or kebabs for late-night food.”

While Last Supper Pizzeria stands in contrast to the city’s other late-night pit stops, the restaurant is also open for earlier dining from 5pm.

It sits opposite speciality coffee store, The 1995, which opened in September.

Alongside Babylon Bar, Mr Mulga also owns Lola’s Pergola at Cullen Bay and Monte’s Lounge at Alice Springs.

Last Supper Pizzeria will be open from 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

A new indoor cinema – a first for the Darwin CBD in four years – is also set to open in Air Raid Arcade next year.

It will be built in the arcade’s upper level by the Darwin Film Society, which already operates the Deckchair Cinema in the dry season.
