Queensland Police Service is appealing for help to find a woman involved in a high-profile “gangland-style” shooting in Townsville.

Kayla Cheree Maxfield was jailed in late 2022 for her role in the shooting in Kirwan in August 10, 2019, before escaping in a stolen luxury car that was later set ablaze.

QPS said on Tuesday that it was seeking the 30-year-old woman who had disappeared and “is wanted for alleged criminal offences in Queensland”.

“Police are concerned for the welfare of Kayla after she was reported missing in Townsville on July 9,” QPS said in a statement.

“She is believed to have left Queensland and travelled to New South Wales or Victoria.”

Police described Maxfield as being of Caucasian appearance, about 165cm tall with dark brown hair and eyes.

She has a distinctive tattoo covering her left arm.

“Anyone who sees Kayla is urged not to approach her but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately,” QPS said.

Maxfield pleaded guilty in the Townsville Supreme Court in 2022 to charges of a malicious act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson and possession of dangerous drugs.

She was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years jail.

Anyone with information into Kayla’s whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 180033000.

Police are also urging Maxfield to come forward and contact Policelink.
