A JOURNALIST who was filmed walking to an ambulance with blood pouring from a wound in his neck has told how he was stabbed as he tried to protect his friends from the London Bridge terrorists.

Geoff Ho, who practises kung fu and kick boxing, is recovering in hospital after surgery, but wrote a statement outlining how the confrontation took place in a Borough Market restaurant.

It had earlier been reported from posts on his Facebook page that he took on an assailant attacking a bouncer at a pub, but Mr Ho has clarified that the incident involving the bouncer took place minutes before his encounter with the terrorists.

“I had just left the Wheatsheaf pub and saw two people attacking the bouncer,’’ the business editor of the Sunday Express wrote.

“He was on his own and I held off the unarmed attackers until the police arrived.

“At that point I thought ‘job done, now for beer and food.’”

Mr Ho wrote a quick update about the altercation on his Facebook page, concluding “not on my watch’’ then went to join his friends at the Black and Blue steak house further down Stoney Street.

Two minutes later, the terrorists burst in.

“Most of my friends and the staff hid under tables but one of my friends was frozen behind me,’’ he said.

“I knew I had to face the attackers down, they were armed and I had the best chance of delaying them until the police arrived or they’d get everyone.

“I had to shield my friends and the people there. Then I noticed they had what looked like suicide vests on.

“I tried to slow them, they attacked. It happened so quickly.

“The bastard in the Arsenal shirt came at me first. I think I got a hit in on one of them, but either he or his accomplice got me with a shot to the throat.’’

The terrorists then targeted Mr Ho’s friend, stabbing him in the face and hands before fleeing the restaurant.

“I picked up my friend and bundled him into the store room,’’ Mr Ho said.

“I called the police and within moments they arrived. I gave the police descriptions of the three and we were evacuated’’

The journalist, who is expected to make a full recovery, said he was a supporter of the Muslim community.

“I want to make it clear that many of my friends are Muslim.

“The people who attacked me were not representative of Islam.

“I stand in solidarity with my Muslim brothers and sisters.

“I would like to extend my wishes to everyone who has been affected, especially to the family and friends over those still missing.”

Mr Ho has thanked hospital staff for their care of him, and requested privacy.
