A YEAR on from "that dress", Brynne Edelsten has promised something special for this year's Brownlow Medal night.

The glitzy Californian caused a commotion when she made her debut at last year's ceremony, in a crystal-encrusted, sheer black gown that flaunted her bombshell curves.

Edelsten has another show-stopping surprise up her sleeve for Monday night's black tie dinner, but is taking an unexpectedly different tack with a more low-key dress.

"I can say this is a bit more conservative than what everyone is used to seeing me wear. It's very nice" she said.

The frock was co-designed by her husband, millionaire former Sydney Swans owner Dr Geoffrey Edelsten, who she wed last November.

Brynne gave the Herald Sun a sneak peek of her Brownlow style from her personal collection at the couple's luxury Melbourne home.

This year's Brownlow dress, by US label Murielle, is a secret until Edelsten steps out of the limousine. But she promised it would be different to any outfit she'd worn.

"The gown you will see on Monday is my husband's idea," she said. "I can't really say anything, but it was his idea. He is very creative. I always ask him before I step out the door if what I am wearing looks all right, or if I should change my coat."

Murielle makes all Edelsten's special occasion dresses, including last year's eye-popping creation.

"I just hope I don't disappoint anyone," Edelsten said.

"Last year I didn't expect all of that attention. It caught me off-guard a little bit.

"But this year at least I know what it will be like in front of the cameras, and I can have more fun rather than being nervous or shocked."

As one of Melbourne's most photographed women - and the owner of an enviably large wardrobe - Edelsten said the key to a fabulous frock was uniqueness.
