Geelong United basketball chief executive Mark Neeld said it was fantastic to see high-level competition in the region.

“We were able to secure this because of the enormous growth we have seen in the sport in our region,” he said.

“Our community competition now has approximately 8000 people who play on a weekly basis, and in addition to that there’s 49 pathway teams, so the sport of basketball is in an extremely healthy position.

“We were involved in some of the discussions on whether the Geelong area would be able to host the competition.

“It is very easy to access at the Geelong Arena, the best part about it is it’s not just for basketball fans but also for the followers of top-level sport.”

Queensland will be led by Mackay Meteors coach Joel Khalu again in 2023, as the successful state program looks to defend its men’s title, while Victoria will try to back up its 2022 success on home courts.
