HAWTHORN star Luke Hodge is reportedly making a "massive" effort to look his best on Brownlow night.

HAWTHORN star Luke Hodge is reportedly keen to make the right impression on the blue carpet, having spent the past week making a "massive" effort to look his best on Brownlow night.

Teammate Brad Sewell dobbed Hodge in, saying the talented defender had already visited a solarium several times in preparation for footy's big night on Monday.

"Hodgy is taking it very seriously," Sewell said. "I think he really wants to win the best-dressed man award.

"He's spent so much time on getting ready, he's taking more time and effort than (girlfriend) Lauren (Kirkman)."

But Hodge isn't the only footballer expected to impress on the blue carpet, with fashion guru Melissa Hoyer -- who is judging the inaugural Crown Lager Best Dressed Man Award -- tipping Gary Ablett and Nathan Brown will rival the Hawk in the fashion stakes.

"It's a little bit embarrassing, but at least I'm not coming in at the bottom end given I have a fashion label," Brown laughed.

"But I'd be putting my money on Jimmy Bartel or Daniel Giansiracusa."
