Damage from North Queensland’s recent devastating weather event has forced the Guzman y Gomez to temporarily close its Willows store while repairs and upgrades were completed.
There had been speculation on social media about the fate of the shuttered Willows store, given Guzman y Gomez’s (GYG) decision to close its Townsville CBD store a fortnight ago, to focus on stores using the drive through model.
When visited on Wednesday, the Willows store was hive of activity with multiple tradie vehicles in the carpark, and a skip bin in front of the restaurant was loaded with dumped material.
The entire site was fenced off and a sign urged customers to visit GYG’s other stores.
When asked about the closure, a GYG spokeswoman said the building had “sustained significant damage to the ceiling, walls, and flooring” due to the major weather event in early February.
“The safety of our crew and guests is our number one priority, and we are actively working on necessary repairs to restore the restaurant,” the spokeswoman said.
“In addition to these repairs, we’re also taking this opportunity to upgrade the restaurant with new equipment to enhance our guests’ experience.
“Based on the current repair schedule, we expect to reopen by mid-March.”
She confirmed that their Willows crew was being redeployed to their other stores operating at Domain Central and Fairfield Waters.
“We have also increased trading hours of our Domain location to 11pm,” she said.
