Calling all young surfers up for the chance to be paid $50,000 to quit their day jobs and chase waves at the best beaches in Australia – this is your dream job.
Tracks Magazine is looking for three young surfers to star in a new reality TV show.
Tracks editor Luke Kennedy said the magazine will foot the bill for “pretty much everything” as the surfers travel up and down the coast.
“[The surfers will be] attending major surfing events and music festivals, eat and drink at the best pubs and great local restaurants and capture everything in between,” he said.
The surfers will live on a converted bus, and stay at the country’s best surf shacks – with all living expenses paid for. Only working two weeks a month, the lucky three will promote Australia as a tourist surfing mecca through social media while the reality show tracks their every move.
“The content [they] film will be shared across all social media platforms as well as creating travel guides of the best places to surf, stay, eat and drink,” Mr Kennedy said.
Tracks magazine has also announced their new travel platform called Tracks Shacks which will be launching later in the year.
“When [they’re] not sleeping on the Tracks Wanderlust Bus, [they will] be staying at some of the best coastal beach shacks thanks to a new Airbnb-styled travel platform … the accommodation will be curated for surfers, by surfers,” Mr Kennedy said.
Since its 1970 launch, Tracks magazine has become the world’s most prolifically published surf magazine, surpassing USA’s ‘Surfer Magazine’ with well over 600 issues. Keen surfer and Tracks show hopeful Zukas Ioining said he would be applying with some of his mates.
“I’d be proper frothing if I got chosen for the Tracks Bus, it’s every surfer’s dream job … even though I’m only 17 and still at school, I’ll be applying for sure to be on the radar and potentially be considered for the job in the future,” he said.
“I’ll be 18 in September when they start filming, but my mum would crack it if I tossed in my QCE to surf around Australia. Maybe I could study remotely while filming.”
Aussie surfing icon and Tracks brand ambassador Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew said landing a Tracks cover was the ultimate dream for any pro surfer.
“For over 50 years, Tracks Magazine has been the undisputed voice of surfing across the world,
“I’m excited three young grommets will have the chance to experience that same feeling with the reinvigoration of the magazine.” he said.
The magazine will also offer investors to buy shares in the company for the first time through a Birchal equity crowd-funding raise.
