A juvenile has been crash tackled and placed under citizen’s arrest after allegedly being busted midway through breaking into a Gold Coast home.

The child reportedly arrived with a group of other teens at a home on Rhodium Crescent, Hope Island about 4am on Monday where they allegedly gained entry to the property.

According to police sources the occupants were woken by the sound of the juveniles sifting through their belongings and went to investigate.

As the juveniles attempted to take off it’s understood the residents tackled one of the offenders, pinning them to the ground until police arrived about five minutes later.

The other offenders allegedly returned to the property after officers had left. According to sources, the juveniles smashed the rear window on the occupant’s car in an act of retribution before speeding off. It’s believed the gang were travelling in two stolen cars.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers arrived at about 4.06am and took a 14-year-old boy into custody. No charges have been laid at this stage.

They also confirmed officers returned to the property at about 5.20am following damage to a rear window of a vehicle parked at the address.

Investigations are continuing.
