A busy northern Gold Coast road has been closed in both directions due to fallen powerlines – sparking traffic chaos in Paradise Point and Hope Island.
Emergency services were called to Oxley Dr at Paradise Point at about 4.30pm after the lines fell on the road near Jabiru Island.

An Energex spokesperson said 1317 customers in the area had been left without power as a result of the incident.
An Energex crew was at the scene to work on repairs.
The cause of the incident was not yet known, with Energex investigating what had happened.
A fire crew was also on scene as a precautionary measure.
A witness said the poles just “fell down out of nowhere”.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
Police have closed the busy thoroughfare in both directions while work is underway to clear the road and restore power.
The closure of the road caused long tailbacks in either direction of Jabiru Island, with traffic snaking back to Coombabah to the south and as far as Hope Island Marketplace to the west.
