A man has allegedly been threatened with a knife and assaulted in a violent carjacking on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to O’Reilly Drive, Coomera about 8pm on Sunday to reports a driver was threatened with the weapon by his passenger.

“Initial investigations indicate the 33-year-old male suspect then assaulted the 18-year-old male victim before removing him from the vehicle,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said in a statement.

“The victim, who owned the car, fled the scene on foot and the suspect left in the Toyota Corolla the pair had been travelling in.”

The police spokesman said the driver and his alleged attacker were known to each, and the vehicle hadn’t been recovered.

Investigations are continuing to locate the male suspect.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, motorists with dashcam vision or nearby residents who have CCTV to call Police Link on 131 444.
