A Gold Coast bakery has come up with a good old-fashioned way of highlighting its gourmet creations - a pie-eating contest.

Helensvale bakery Pie Girl is putting up $500 and a month’s worth of free pies for its first competitive scoff on October 26.

“On the day, the challenger who eats the most pies in 10 minutes will win $500 and free pies for a month,” Pie Girl managing partner Amy Grotegoed said.

Ms Grotegoed said this was the business’s first pie eating competition after opening 12 months ago.

Pie Girl features 11 different gourmet pies including steak, cheese and bacon, steak and cheese and curry steak.

“All our pies are baked fresh in the store every morning,” she said.

Ms Grotegoed said she bought into the business three months ago when the owner approached her to take over the cafe.

“My husband’s family has a long history of owning bakeries in Amsterdam,” she said.

“My husband worked in many bakeries over the years.

“When this opportunity was presented to us, it was a no-brainer.

“We were pumped and excited to have a little pie cafe of our own.”

Ms Grotegoed said 10 contestants would be chosen through Instagram on October 25.

“You can enter by commenting how many pies you think you could eat in 10 minutes and tagging a mate on the post,” she said.

“Customers love our pies so much, so we thought this would be a great way to involve them.”
