Police have charged two men with deprivation of liberty and a string of other charges after a man was allegedly held captive and bashed in a Gold Coast unit. What we know so far

A man has allegedly been held against his will and violently bashed by two men inside a Gold Coast unit block before managing to escape and alert police.

Officers were called to a reported disturbance about 11.30am on Friday, May 16, at an address on Brett Ave, Labrador.

“A man involved in the disturbance reported to police he had been kept inside a nearby unit, assaulted multiple times and prevented from leaving,” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman told the Bulletin.

“He had managed to flee from the unit before being pursued by two men who allegedly continued to assault him. Members of the public provided assistance and contacted police.”

Officers took two men into custody at the scene. The alleged victim of the attack received minor injuries.

A 28-year-old Labrador man and a 30-year-old Southport man have since been charged with deprivation of liberty (unlawfully detain/confine), robbery (armed/in company/wounded/used personal violence), possessing dangerous drugs, fail to properly dispose of needle and syringe, and stealing.

Both men are due to face Southport Magistrates Court on June 19.
