A man remains in a critical condition after a “horrific” Burleigh Waters crash on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Bermuda St just before 3pm following the single-vehicle crash into a tree.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics assessed a man in his 40s with head, chest, leg and abdominal injuries and transported him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Initial reports indicated the man was trapped inside the vehicle with emergency services still attempting to free him at 3.40pm.
Nearby residents took to social media with eyewitness accounts.
“I live directly across the road from the house whose backyard the ute and trailer ploughed into,” one person wrote on a community page.
“It’s my neighbour’s house across the road. My house shook, and I heard the bang. My son cycled around and said it didn’t look good at all.”
Another said it was “horrific” and suggested anyone driving towards Bunnings in Burleigh with kids “tell them not to look”.
