Gold Coast development - the $1.5 billion Skyridge community

Construction has started on a 500-person amphitheatre, stair climb, playground and dog park within a new $1.5bn suburb.

Set to open to the public early next year, Lorikeet Park will span almost two hectares and form a key attraction in Worongary’s master planned SkyRidge community.

The outdoor space will feature a fully fenced off-leash dog park, playground, barbecue areas and a lorikeet centrepiece.

A 180-step stair climb elevated around 30 metres and a cardio challenging zone will cater for fitness fanatics.

Families can also take in extensive views of the Gold Coast skyline and Pacific Ocean on the lookout and observation deck.

Project director Chris Alston said Lorikeet Park would be a must-visit recreational and leisure destination.

“We believe it will become a destination of choice due to the level and quality of the playground equipment, which will be suitable for all ages from toddlers through to teenagers,” he said.

The first residential precincts of the community, known as the The Ascent neighbourhood, will be delivered at the end of this year.

It will have its own Gumnut Park opening in the new year.

Developers will progressively release 2000 lots to the market over the next 10 years.

The entire development, ultimately to home 10,000 people, is not expected to be completed until 2036.

Once finished, it will boast a shopping village, retail centre, parklands, trail networks, open green spaces and public art.
