An adrenaline rush of surf, sand and crime is the inspiration behind a new television drama being filmed on the Gold Coast.

Director Peter Conrad said he could not think of a more perfect backdrop than his home town for the eight episode series, Beach Command.

The show is about commanders who risk their lives to keep locals and tourists safe on one of Australia’s busiest beaches, Surfers Paradise.

“The great outdoors is my passion,” Mr Conrad said. “I want to bring this rush you get every day living here to the screen.

“Every part of the Gold Coast will be featured in upcoming episodes – of course 75 per cent will be on Gold Coast beaches where we, the beach commanders, call home.”

The pilot currently being filmed will be completed next month.

Surfers Paradise and other iconic Gold Coast locations will feature in the series.

As for whether a TV network has picked up the project, Mr Conrad has kept tight-lipped.

“It’s been hush-hush,” the director said.

He added the series would bring “huge” benefits to the Glitter Strip, including employment and tourism promotion.

“There are over 60 actors in the series, locals and people from as far as Brisbane and the Sunny Coast,” Mr Conrad said.

“We are always looking for more extras and actors.”
