A GOLD Coast woman who won $50,000 has revealed she initially believed the prize was a prank.

The woman told lottery officials she'd bought the ticket on April Fool's Day, adding the news was still sinking in.

"I scratched it on April Fool's Day, which makes it even funnier," she said.

"I was just sitting at the breakfast table and it was the last number I scratched. I thought it must have been some kind of joke.

"Then I yelled out to my partner, 'I think we've won $50,000!'

"I was so excited. We went straight to the newsagency and got them to check it, and when they told us the prize was too big for them to pay out we knew it was true."

She said the prize money would go towards gutting and renovating her bathroom and installing extra air-conditioning.

Coombabah Lakes Newsagency owner Adrian Lancaster said he was happy to see the prize go to a regular.

"It's fantastic to see this prize go to someone who is always coming in here and supporting us," he said.

"It's been a long time between wins for us, so we certainly hope this is the beginning of a winning streak."

The ticket is unregistered, so officials from The Lott have no way of contacting the winner and have to wait for them to come forward to claim their prize.

The mystery winner purchased their entry at Tweed Mall News, Shop 2 Centro On Tweed, 6 Wharf Street, Tweed Heads.

Tweed Mall News owner Graeme Hooley was stoked his outlet had sold a division one prize.

“What fantastic news and great timing for one of our customers!” he said.

“This will be the topic of discussion all week, no doubt! There will be lots of banter going on in the store.

“This is the first division one winning entry we’ve sold since we took over the outlet five years ago. We’ve sold a Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot 1st Prize too!

“We hope the winner discovers their win soon so we can celebrate with them!”

Everyone who purchased an entry into the weekend’s draw from Tweed Mall news has been asked to check their tickets today.

The winner is asked to phone 131 868 as soon as possible to claim their prize.
