Helensvale dog owner shocked to receive threatening note

A Gold Coast resident has reacted with shock after being sent a letter from a neighbour appearing to threaten their dog. Here’s what it said.

A Helensvale resident has reacted with shock after being sent a letter from a neighbour appearing to threaten their dog.

The note, which was left in the person’s mailbox, complained about barking in the middle of the night.

“Your dog is a f***ing joke,” the note read.

“We have had to listen to this piece of sh*t bark all night. It is now 2am and it’s still barking.

“We will be emailing council.

“By the way it would be terrible if it got sick”.

Adding insult to injury, the dog owner who received the message said their pet was not the one responsible for the barking.

“This is not our dog barking at 2am,” they said.

“There is one behind us that barks non stop.

“And would appreciate if they would not threaten our dog getting poisoned.”

Locals reacted with anger towards the letter writer after it was shared on social media.

“This is absolutely disgusting,” one said. “I had similar letters when I rented in Helensvale. My dog was a bit traumatised by the move and on day one I had a letter from an anonymous neighbour.

“I sent a letter to all my neighbours asking them to talk face to face. Disgraceful behaviour and that is definitely a threat.”

Most suggested that talking about concerns face to face would be a far better way to deal with matters.

“This is awful,” one wrote. “A simple conversation with the person first would make all the difference.”

Council advises that residents with concerns about barking dogs should talk to the dog owner in the first instance. If the problem continues, residents can report the issue.

Council would then contact the owner and give them two weeks to solve the matter, moving to issuing fines if they fail to do so.

“If the dog owner does not stop the noise nuisance, we may issue up to two fines,” they said.

“If the noise nuisance continues, we may seize the dog or begin legal action.”
