Police are looking for a group of youths involved in a brazen break-in attempt at Mermaid Waters overnight.
Queensland Police Service was called to a private residence on The Lanes Boulevard shortly after midnight on Sunday to reports of three youths attempting to break into a number of parked cars.
QPS said a man in his 20s, a resident on that street, had attempted to intervene after realising one of the trio was trying to steal his bicycle.
“The man was on his way home when he saw the youths,” a police spokeswoman said,
“He attempted to intervene and shouted at the group before they struck him.”
QPS said the man did not sustain any significant injuries from the altercation.
It comes as police continue to investigate a series of break-ins that left a number of vehicles with their windows smashed in an overnight wrecking spree in Southport on Saturday.
A police spokeswoman said they had received multiple reports of wilful damage in relation to the incident.
She said they were appealing for anyone who might have witnessed what happened or have relevant video footage to come forward.
