MAJOR recruitment campaigns have been launched on the Gold Coast offering six-figure salaries for jobs with no experience required.

Resources company Fortescue is looking to recruit 718 people to work at its new Iron Bridge mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia by March.

Most in demand are Process Operators and Fitters, but six-figure salaries are also available for people no experience, who can get roles like Entry Field Technician.

Technology firm Atlassian has also launched a major recruitment drive on the Gold Coast, with graduate salaries of up to $200,000 on offer.

Fortescue chief operating officer Dino Otranto said the company already had a number of staff who lived in the Gold Coast working at its mine sites.

“We have a couple of hundred people who are living in Queensland working across our WA sites and a lot of those are from the Gold Coast,” Mr Otranto said.

“(They’re) great people over there on the Gold Coast, that’s why we’re on the hunt.”

Mr Otranto said that in addition to high salaries the company offered flexible rosters, allowing people to work two weeks on and two weeks off at home on the Gold Coast.

“In the Pilbara we have to be pretty competitive so the salaries will be competitive,” Mr Otranto said.

“We’re also offering great rosters. Across Fortescue we offer two and two, two and one, and the uniqueness of our offering is we give flexibility to the employee around those rosters.”

Software company Atlassian, which had an RV stationed at Pacific Fair on Tuesday to advertise its jobs, said its “work from anywhere” policy meant candidates would not have to move from the Gold Coast to secure one of its high-paying jobs.

The company is looking to recruit 1032 people in analytics and data science, engineering, marketing, customer experience and product management.

According to research by the Australian, the company pays graduate software engineers about $200,000.

However co-founder Scott Farquhar said the ability to work from cities like the Gold Coast was one of the key reasons people joined the company.

“There are still more tech jobs out there than there are people to fill them,” he said.

“One of the things we’ve got is we can hire people all across Australia and New Zealand, around the world.

“If someone wants a job in the tech industry, these are really high paying jobs, people stay in the industry longer.

“There‘s less of a gender pay gap and other high-paying industries. Like, these are great jobs that everyone wants – and you can work from regional or rural Australia.”

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) also launched a fresh recruitment drive this week, with Police Minister Mark Ryan and Commissioner Katarina Carroll announcing assessment fees would be waived for the next six months.

The starting salary of a first year constable is $74,768 per annum, comprising $61,792* + 21 per cent operational shift allowance (OSA).

The recruitment drives come after the unemployment rate on the Gold Coast fell to a low of 2.5 per cent, down from 4.8 per cent in March 2020.

Despite the city’s rising population the number of people claiming Jobseeker payments was also down ten per cent in the same period, from 24,664 to 22,105.

Federal government data reveals health care and social assistance provides the highest number of jobs on the Gold Coast, while the greatest number of vacancies are for sales assistants.
