Gold Coast crime: Teens threatened in Coast drive-by theft

POLICE are searching for a blue Mitsubishi vehicle involved in a drive-by theft in Reedy Creek at the weekend.

A group of teenagers – including two 14-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl – were walking along Grampian Crt about 11pm Saturday when the Mitsubishi pulled up beside them.

Police said two men got out of the car and demanded property while making threats.

The group handed over some items to the two offenders before they fled.

Bizarre theft leaves Mudgeeraba Soccer Club furious – September 30

A GOLD Coast junior sporting club has been left out of pocket and reeling after thieves stole up to 20 safety bollards which were being used for community events.

Mudgeeraba Soccer Club secretary Jacqueline Buxton said between 12 to 20 of the bollards were stolen from the club on Tuesday night.

The bollards weighed 6kg each and were being used to keep crowds back as a Covid precaution for the KPI Sports Gold Coast Champion’s Cup and an upcoming community colour run.

Ms Buxton said the thieves returned to the scene of the crime on Wednesday night to steal more, but were caught in the act by club members.

She said one member almost had her car swiped by the thieves as they sped off in a getaway car.

“This obviously took some time and planning,” Ms Buxton said.

The club was forced to buy more bollards to replace the stolen ones at a cost of $50 each.

“That money should be going back to our juniors, rather than being spent on more bollards,” Ms Buxton said.

“We really want our bollards returned and (for those responsible) to think about the community before they take things.

“The only people who lose out of this are the kids.”

The incident was reported to police, who said a dark coloured SUV with a trailer attached was involved.

A registration number could not be obtained.

Police said no arrests had been made and investigations were ongoing.

Family’s car stolen just two weeks after move to new home – September 27

A GOLD Coast family had their new car stolen while they slept just a couple of weeks after moving to a new suburb.

It follows a spate of brazen thefts on the Gold Coast at the weekend, with cars found dumped as far away as Brisbane.

Troy Cush and his children were asleep when thieves broke into their Varsity Lakes home early Monday.

The family had only just moved from Burleigh Waters to Varsity Lakes a couple of weeks ago.

Mr Cush told the Bulletin the thieves broke in through a window on the lower level of the house and stole the keys to his Ford Ranger ute and a wallet.

Although his home was locked, he urged others in the area to lock their doors.

“It’s people’s lives (these thieves) are messing with and if it’s just for a joy ride – what’s the point?” Mr Cush said.

“Now I can’t work today and I can’t work for the next few days.

“My employer has been put out – everyone’s put out by this.”

Police said Mr Cush’s car was found abandoned on Andrea St Tarragindi about 6am Monday.

Several other cars were reported stolen at the weekend and these were not understood to be linked.

There was a spate in Gold Coast car thefts at the weekend.

A silver 2005 Range Rover and a green 2015 Land Rover Discovery were stolen from a Southport home between 12.30am and 3am Saturday.

Police said unknown offenders entered through the side of the house.

The Range Rover was found abandoned on Cypress Dr West about 7am Saturday and the green Land Rover Discovery was found abandoned on McAllister St about 7am Monday.

Police are continuing their investigations into these cases, as well as a the theft of a custom dark purple wrapped car stolen from a house in Oxenford on Sunday night.

They were unable to say how many car thefts occurred on the Coast at the weekend.
