A Gold Coast island resort resident has vented their fury after several chemical storage containers were spotted on a public beach.

Island management said they were being used as floatation devices and Gold Coast City Council said the containers did not pose a risk to the community.

The resident shared several photos of the containers with the Bulletin after he spotted them on a public beach at Couran Cove Island Resort, South Stradbroke Island.

The man, who asked not to be named, took the photos last week but said the containers were still there on Thursday.

“You can clearly make out the corrosive label,” he said.

“This beach is used by the public.

“A public beach is not the place for used chemical tanks.”

A council spokeswoman said Couran Cove management had used the chemical storage containers for pontoon maintenance.

“They have not been illegally dumped on the beach and there is no risk to the community,” she said.

“Couran Cove have advised that they will remove the containers.”

A Couran Cove spokesman said the containers were “clean, sealed and empty”.

“They are used as floatation devices for the maintenance of marina facilities at Couran Cove,” he said.

“The Gold Coast City Council is aware of this and have advised they have no concerns about having clean sealed containers being used for the operation of the marina.”
