A Gold Coast chiropractor has been slapped with a ban on treating women by the healthcare watchdog.
Michael Roy Kaspar, who currently lists his principal place of practice as Elanora on the Gold Coast, was the target of immediate registration action by the state’s health watchdog effective from December 13, according to an announcement published on their website.
He has previously worked at Experience Healing Chiropractic in Mackay.
The Health Ombudsman has banned Dr Kaspar from contact with female patients and states that he must take all reasonable steps to ensure female patients are told at the time of wanting to book an appointment with the practitioner that they cannot.
He must not provide this information to patients personally and instead must have a receptionist or other worker inform them.
He must also only practise at practice location/s approved by the Health Ombudsman, and he does not currently have Health Ombudsman approval to practise in any employment or practice location, the website states.
If he gets approval to practise in a clinic he must give the Health Ombudsman permission to make a site visit to his clinic to assess his compliance with the requirements of the conditions.
He must also all the Office of the Health Ombudsman to inspect, take or copy patient clinical records, log books and/or appointment diaries.
According to his Instagram profile Dr Kaspar describes himself as an “holistic chiropractor, bridging the scientific and spiritual gap” and offering chiropractic adjustments, dry needling therapy, cupping and laser therapy.
Dr Kaspar has been registered since 2011, according to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency website.
He completed his Master of Chiropractic in 2010, it states.
The regulator did not reveal details on why it has taken action against Dr Kaspar.
The immediate registration action is a temporary measure taken by the regulator and it can only be removed by the health ombudsman or by application to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
